There was this show I worked on. It was the last TV show I did, the one during which I bought this place and formulated a loose plan for getting out of the business. The show was absolutely instrumental in this decision. For one thing, the money we earned on it got us the down [...]

My trip to Massachusetts was, for the most part, lovely. Amongst the various family news, one couple is closing on an awesome house next month, one couple got engaged and one couple is moving from the west coast back home again. We ate a lovely Heritage Turkey who lived a very happy life in NY [...]

Hey look! Deb Menz is going to be giving online classes. On her site is says something about autumn but in this spinning mag she says sometime in 2007. That’s cool, Deb, we’ll just wait. Patiently. ………. When in 2007? I found that spinning mag courtesy of one of the participants in the Pixie Purls [...]

Here’s what I managed to accomplish at the Peachtree Handspinners Guild yesterday: sea mist singles And I got several nice compliments on these, too. The knowledge that I finally have the ability to turn these into a good plied yarn is pure elation. I feel the same way I did when I read my first [...]

Thanks for all the compliments on the socks. The socks really do look like crap in person, but the difficulties of photographing your socks while you’re wearing them apparently leads to blurriness and obscuring of the facts. It’s ok, I learned something about how not to shape a sock and the effects of too many [...]

Despite the fact that I currently have to rip myself tearfully away from my spinning wheel to do anything else, I did manage to finish something. You’ll NEVER believe what. Here’s the Coveted Crappily Lit Bathroom Mirror Shot: Yes. More socks. Am I sick of knitting socks yet? Not half as much as you must [...]

Actually I don’t think mine qualifies. It doesn’t have a picture. I bought this calendar with the express intention of having enough space to write important farm stuff in the day boxes. Function over form, that’s me. Now I feel ashamed. At any rate, Happy Birthday, Chappy’s Mom!! For what it’s worth, you can see [...]

I thought I had some genetic defect that prevented me from making a balanced plied yarn. I have tried and tried and tried to no avail. Just look at this alpaca roving that I wrecked only recently: This was spun into some LOVELY singles, if I do say so myself. But because I just could [...]

So moving right along: Saturday. Now SAFF is short for Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair. Meaning it revolves around animal fibers and fiber producing animals. You will not find a lot of commercial yarns at this one, which I love. You can buy cascade anywhere-you come to this fair to support small farmers, spinners, mills, dyers [...]
